Grade ii Listed Cottage, Pirbright

This beautiful Grade ii Listed property had grown over the centuries to meet the needs of the respective occupants and address differing lifestyles and family needs. Atelierdb were asked provide design options to improve the kitchen and dining areas of the property, as well as reconfigure the bathroom arrangements to better serve the family.

At first floor, the house was arranged with 5 lovely sized bedrooms, but strangely had 3 ensuites with no family bathroom. Atelierdb helped the clients replan the central core of 2 ensuites, and created a family bathroom that could be accessed by 3 of the bedrooms, leaving two bedrooms with ensuites.

At ground floor the kitchen suffered from poor access to the impressive South facing garden, having only access from a side entry door. We redesigned the kitchen and extended it to the side, creating a new access route directly to the garden with an oriel window adding a discreet modern reference in harmony with the Listed Building. The new kitchen enjoys amazing light, and views into the garden. A large structural glass rooflight scoops in beautiful morning sun, whilst being suitably specified to prevent heat gain.

Atelierdb are proud of the final results and our design was recognised by the Guildford Society with a Design Award. This historic building didnt want to allow this change easily, with ground conditions and the winter weather adding to the challenge of the build. We hope that the quality of the design and the build means that this reconfigured and extended area of the house can live well into the coming centuries and embelish the charm and quality of the Listed Building.
