Virgin Active HQ, Barbican

We were appointed to undertake a complete refurbishment of Virgin Active HQ in the Barbican Estate. The project was 2600m2 (28000ft2) and provided: group director offices and boardroom, support offices, training centre and associated breakout/welfare facilities.

The project was undertaken in 2 phases: firstly the warehousing was converted to provide offices with staff then moving across a temporary screen. The interiors were stripped out also during phase 1, allowing the group offices to be constructed more quickly.

Phase 2 was completed at speed due to the infrastructuring being extended from that already installed in phase 1. The open plan offices create an exciting clean working environment, with stimulating breakout spaces. The group directors boardroom utilises switch glass facing into the office space to ensure privacy whilst allowing in borrowed natural light.

Alterations to the front entrance glazing required Planning permission due to this being part of the Listed Barbican Estate. Atelierdb provided full RIBA services from concept to completion.
